How do neurotoxin injectables work?

Botox® is the world’s leading neurotoxin injectable, but several other options work similarly to address wrinkles on the face. These medications are created from Clostridium botulinum, a substance naturally found in lakes, forests, and soil.

In certain concentrations, this substance is dangerous. However, the volume used in aesthetic treatments is carefully controlled and proven to be safe. Once injected, Botox and other neurotoxins prevent targeted muscle tissue from going through its full range of motion.

Your facial muscles can still create typical expressions, but they lack the strength to tug and pull your skin into lines, folds, and wrinkles. The effects are temporary, but they work to reduce the visible signs of aging.

What areas respond well to neurotoxin injections?

Botox and other options are approved for use in specific areas of the face. These include crow’s feet, the lines that branch out from the outside corners of the eyes. Frown lines, the vertical furrows between your eyebrows, also respond well to neurotoxin injectables.

Neurotoxin injectables also treat forehead lines, the horizontal lines that run across your brow and deepen when you make certain facial expressions. Like many medications, some people use neurotoxin injectables to treat other, “off-label” areas.

During your consultation, you learn how these treatments can help you achieve your goals.

How long will my neurotoxin treatments last?

In general, neurotoxin injectables create results that last around four months. One of the things patients love about these treatments is the temporary nature of the results.

If you love your results, you can return for another round of treatments. It only takes a few injections to administer the medication, and the entire process takes less than 10 minutes.

If there are things about your results you’d like to tweak, just let Elizabeth know. She can adjust results by altering the placement of the injections or the volume of medication used during treatments.
